Rev. Gaines was the lead pastor at Gardendale First Baptist from 1991 to 2005- he spent over 2 decades at Bellevue before stepping aside as he fought kidney cancer.
Mr. Gaines was also the head of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Many of y’all reached out to me when Rev. Gaines went into hospice- I wanted to let you know he passed away last Friday at the age of 68.
I hope you send your condolences to the reverend’s wife Donna, their children Grant, Bethany, Lindsey and Allison, and their 18 grandchildren.
Steve Gaines touched the lives of hundreds of thousands over a 40 year career in the ministry.
He was a Good Servant who will be missed.
