The 56-year-old, a father and grandfather, had been the school’s headteacher for 17 years and lived with his family in Weaverham, Northwich. The school was closed on Tuesday as a mark of respect, but is understood to have reopened for pupils on Wednesday.
Floral tributes in memory of Mr Mullins have been attached to the school’s gates, together with a shirt from Stretford-based Longford Park Junior Football Club.

In a statement posted to social media on Wednesday, the club said it was ‘deeply saddened’ at the shock news, calling him ‘an advocate for grassroots football and our community’.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed Mr Mullins’ bike was hit by a car at around 6pm on Paddock Lane in Altrincham on Monday. He tragically died of his injuries, the force said.
In a statement issued through GMP after his death, his family said: “Our loving Dad, husband, Brother-in-law, ‘Diddy’, Uncle, Son in law, passed away last night after being knocked off his bike.
“He was devoted to his family and our lives will never be the same. A gap has been left in our hearts and within his role as a headteacher of Stretford Grammar school.
“Our Dad gave us fantastic memories growing up including a trip getting lost at night around Washington D.C but it was in his role as a Grandad where he truly excelled. At this time the family request privacy. Our love and memories of Michael will know no limits. We will love him forever, to Saturn and beyond.”

GMP said the vehicle involved in the crash failed to stop, but four people, three men and a woman, were later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
All four remain in custody for questioning, according to the last police update.
The football club wrote on Facebook: “As many of you will have heard about Mr Mullins, what you may not know is just how great an advocate he was for grassroots football and for our community. For coming up to 10 years, he welcomed our club with open arms and stood firmly behind everything we do.
“No matter what barriers were put in front of us, Mr Mullins would help tear them down so our children could get outside and play on that field. His belief in giving young people a safe, positive place to play will leave a lasting legacy. His support, kindness, and dedication will never be forgotten.

“Michael was a lovely man and in the conversations we had it was clear that the needs of the children in his care were always at the heart of everything he did. His loss will be felt deeply by all who knew him, here in the Stretford community and beyond.”
